This summer, use these open-ended questions to assist your child to reflect and learn from the challenges, choices, struggles and victories of this past school year. Not only will they learn valuable lessons through processing their year, but you’ll grow closer together as you share hearts in these precious summer days ahead.

Questions:

  • What did you like MOST about this past year? Least? Be honest –the year is over now. There is no right or wrong answer!
  • What was the most important thing you learned this year? (Can be academic, relational, spiritual, social or athletic)
  • What was the hardest thing about this past school year? Why? Do you feel as though you grew as a result of it? Why or why not?
  • Did you discover any new interests or abilities or passions this year?
  • Who was important in your school life this year? Were your friendships helpful to you? Why or why not?
  • Looking back at this year, what’s one thing you’re really proud of?
  • What’s one thing you wish you’d done differently?
  • Anticipating this coming school year, what are you most looking forward to? Dreading?
  • What do you want to pray about this summer?
  • Do you know that God has created you uniquely, with gifts only YOU possess, a fingerprint only YOU have, an ability to touch the world that nobody else possesses? What do you think your special gifts from God are? How might God use those gifts now? In the future?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11
